seaweed dress. A hand-sewn mini project. Inspired by the Cornish coast and the local plants, I wanted to create a dress made from untreated seaweed and fully hand-stitched together. I primarily used oarweed, a type of large brown algae; it is easily processed and commonly available along the coastline.
I particularly enjoyed the transformability of seaweed: it can dry up into rigid shapes, but you can easily bring it back to its original form by soaking it in water. I also wanted to capture the peacefulness of the sea and enjoy the slow, therapeutic process. Thus, I chose to hand-stitch the dress.
